Heads up about a killer anti smoking drug for any of you thinking of quiting. Serious concern is being expressed by sections of the medical profession concerning 'Champix' a so called wonder drug designed to help people quit smoking. It has now been linked to at least 7 deaths in the UK with thousands of people reporting serious side effects from heart complaints to suicidal thoughts. The drug manufactured by Pfizer is still on the market despite accounting for 6% of all complaints about side effects from drugs last year and a doubling of reports in a 60 day period of suicidal tendencies. This would not be the first time an anti smoking 'wonder drug' has been found to be responsible for the premature deaths of those using it.

A doctor John Griffin who is some sort of expert in the safety of medicines worried about the suicidal effects of Champix has said "Some anti smoking remedies contain an active substance which also has anti-depressant actions. A number of anti-depressants have an effect that causes people who want to commit suicide to do so" Another doctor also questioned the whole idea of prescribing otherwise healthy people drugs of any description let alone anti- depressant smoking drugs.
