i,ve given up on hotels in uk every time in the last two years after booking hotel on-line i,ve ticked smoking room only to be told this is a non smoking establishment or all the smoking rooms are full when i arrive,so its usually smoking with my head out of the window(if they actually open that is) they wan,t top prices for dumps that stink even more than tobacco

Another reason why you should boycott the UK altogether. BTW, I noticed last summer that hotels in Germany had adopted the American practice of not asking your smoking preference and giving you a nonsmoking room--I guess so they could say the "vast majority" of their guests prefer one and do away with smoking rooms entirely.

Speaking of hotels, we're looking for one in Amstersdam and my wife claims that Dutch law now prohibits smoking rooms in hotels, or so the hotels inform her. Anyone know whether this is true?

i think the only solution soon will be camping........but there is probably some health and safety laws about smoking in tents
