How come the health and safety officers are very slow to enforce the concerned legislation when it comes to their own house ? Just visit any A&E unit at our hospitals and all sorts of breaches are occuring. With trolleys blocking up corridors the obvious hazrads to the health and safety of patients, visitors, nurses and other staff seem to be conviniently ignored. What about fire hazards ? What about cross infection ? A picture appeared in one of our daily papers of an elederly lady being treated on a trolley in a hospital canteen for gods sake ! Where were the health and safety police then ? Of course, they were too busy checking behind the urinals in bars for evidence of breaches of the smoking ban to care less about the health and safety shambles that is our health service. Try lighting up a cigarette on one of the wards and see how fast the smoking gestapo would show up !

God help anyone caught up in a major emergency such as a bus or train crash. What is supposed to happen then with the accident and emergency units bursting at the seems already ? They will have to kick the poor misfortunates on the trolleys in the corridors out to make room for the casualties. Third world countries have better health facilities than we have.

.....government run health system..., government run anything...., any time the government runs anything that can be handled by the private sector, they screw it up---intermidable waste, no accountability, that's the government..., in the meantime the public gets screwed with lousy service and high taxes....

Mark .....great government health service..?, compared to what and how much does it really cost compared to alternatives...; private health service a rip off....??, is there no free competition in the private health sector whereby health providers compete for patients through price/quality competition..?..., this all seems very curious...

It seem somebody saw this as just heard on the news that the a+e hospital units are going to be inspected by the health and safety officials.
