The government keeps saying we all want a part time police force. I have not met anyone saying this.

I don't believe a word the government says about anything anymore. They just lie to us as a matter of course. This garda reserve is just a gimmick to cover up the lack of manpower and resources.

We dont see many Police officers anymore over here. We have CSO's (Community Support Officers). They patrol in a police type uniform but have no real powers. They work for a fraction of the salary a real police officer does. Its just policing on the cheap. In these days of increased gang shootings, stabbings and burglaries etc in our towns and cities, no doubt they will be busy in the future months assisting the 'smoke police' when some big hairy cockney, scouser, or gordie tells them to f**k off! Then we will see where the governments priorities really lay when it comes to reducing and detecting crime. But then of course smoking in a pub will be a criminal offence. Their detection figures could see a sharp rise. That would look good at forthcoming polls.
