For decades now the Irish government, media and know it alls have been telling us we have one of the lowest if not lowest crime rate in Europe. Lots of people here like to believe that especially our tourist board. However as many of us expected, not only was this completely untrue it turns out according to an independent European study that Ireland has the worst crime rate in Europe. We are top of the crime tree. If you live in or visit Ireland you are more likely to be mugged, assaulted, fall victim to theft or be sexually molested.
Another big huge myth propagated by the Irish powers that be exposed !

I think the media and politicians are obviously referring to the low crime rates in their own housing estates / grounds. Ya won't catch them walking up Gardiner St. looking for a taxi at 3 am on a Saturday night, I tell ya!

A letter to one of the national papers from a tourist said he saw plenty of drug dealers on the main streets of dublin but not one policeman ever. He asked if ireland has a zero policing policy

Ireland has a very active zero policing policy unless you are parked on a double yellow line, they are very active on that particular crime

Reading this reminds me of something that happened to my brother last summer, he was heading up O'Connell St when he saw a tourist family taking snaps of the spire. He stopped to advise the dad he had left his backback open and that was kinda dumb since the crime rate in the area was really bad, especially against tourists. Well, after a short chat about such things, he went on his way, only to be accosted by a mad-woman, who said he had an awful cheek, besmirching Irelands reputation, he should be ASHAMED! What right had he to tell 'foreigners' things like that, sure would'nt it only put them off....... So what if it was true. What would the neighbours say?

It was at that very same Spire not so long ago two English women were knocked down by a bus. As one of them lay dying on the street the scum that prowl O'Connell Street pounced and robbed her handbag. I guess that woman who took umbrage with your brother would have a lot to say about this too. It would be on the lines of this site should be banned and closed down for telling a truth about our crime ridden little island.

All these events are terrible tragedies and are a bad reflection on our society. Dublin has no monopoly on these tragic events and every city in Europe has it's share of horror stories from victims of crime. Where Dublin and Ireland differs is in it's reluctance to admit the extent of the problem and the inability of the authorities to deal with it. The Irish solution seems to be to massage the crime figures to give the appearance of a low crime rate and act as if this were the true case. As a result we see zero policing instead of zero tolerance. Criminal gangs run rampant virtually unchecked, and low levels of crime go almost unnoticed. Shootings and kidnappings are no longer front page news or headlines. Until we face up to the real situation of the dreadful and rampant crime in our midst the situation will only get worse.

Dublin is nothing short of what chicago was like at the hight of prohibition. Innocent people are now being killed regularly after getting caught up in gang fueds and shootings. But the government and the deluded will still pretend we dont have the worst crime problem in europe.
