Even the upmarket resort of marbella in spain can't escape from rampant irish crime. An asasination of an irish criminal also left two innocent people in hospital with gunshot wounds.

Meanwhile back home....traveller gangs went on the rampage in Waterford recently and in one night 3 people were shot, 13 hospitalised, at least two homes and a number of vehicles petrol bombed. Mobs of travelers attacked each other in different housing estates forcing families and children to flee. Armed cops had to seal off the local hospital as the travelers threatened to run amok there while their friends were being treated. All of this went unreported in the national media. And sure why not, after all their is very little crime in Ireland !

according to one of the papers only 4 out of 10 knife killers are ever caught........the cops have much more important things to do.....like catching people not wearing a seatbelt for instance

Actually, the most heinous crime one can be found guilty of is not having an up to date TV licence, with people ACTUALLY going to jail over it. No other crime is more vigorously pursued, nowhere are more resources available than to force people to spend money on a crappy service they don't want (Personally I have Sky and for me TV starts at channel 106). After I moved they actually knew that I had moved and where I had moved to. How? Because the TV licence crowd belongs to An Post. Through their database they have a better idea where anyone lives than the government. And once they have you in their clutches there's no getting away. And what really gets me is the fact that they start sending you green letters that slowly get redder the closer to the end of your licence it gets. Some actually threatened legal action BEFORE my old licence had expired. My policy with paying bills I don't agree with: Only pay when they threaten legal action and the amount you owe might go up. That way you delayed paying as long as anyhow possible, caused them the most amount of hassle and inconvenience possible without damaging yourself by having legal action brought against you or even having to pay more. Also, it always pays by appealing any such bill for as long as possible (again, as long as there's not too much risk of ending up paying more is involved) to stretch out the process even longer. This goes for traffic tickets, TV licence and so on. Don't just hand over your money like a sap, make them work for it as much as possible! We're all going to end up getting sucked dry by those bastards, so I believe it is our duty to make their lives as hard as possible, cause if everyone just rolls over, it'll be much, much worse!

Totally agree with you J, the tv licence fee is another area people have no choice in. I have managed to avoid paying it for a long time now and frankly would rather go to jail than to pay money to support the government and quango propoganda machine that is rte. And to jail they would indeed send me and spend considerable time and resources doing so.

Wow! I stumbled upon this site by accident, and Im thankful now that I did. My wife and I were planning a trip to Ireland in the spring. But not now! I had no clue that crime was that big of a problem there. If I want to witness drug and or turf wars all I have to do is drive 1 hour north to Cleveland... Thanks to all of you for your informative posts...

The crime wave goes from strength to strength, gun tooting children roaming the streets and shooting people dead who dare try prevent them firing eggs at a house, pipe bombs placed under children's go karts and just this morning a government minister held at gunpoint during a hotel robbery. But don't worry because officially ireland has no major crime problem.

Its really sad to hear about all of this violence . In fact its a real bummer. We were really looking forward to this trip. I guess I was naive to think that Ireland would be immune to the same problems that we have here in the U.S.

www.rte.ie/news/2009/0318/patricks.htmlDublin Fire Brigade says 22 car fires and 18 other fires associated with anti-social behaviour were among the calls answered between 6pm yesterday and 3am this morning. 200 ambulance calls were also received. Around half a dozen minor stabbings were behind some of the calls. Another six or seven minor stabbings, which involved attacks with bottles or glasses were also reported. sounds like a familiar st patricks day in dublin, and someone stabbed to death n limerick
